Here are some answers to commonly asked questions, as well as some tips to help riders have the best experience.

Safety is a major focus of NICA and the LS Sharks team. While there are a variety of equipment choices, required items include:
Good quality mountain bike with an adjustable front fork
MIPS approved helmet
Water bottle that attaches to bike and/or a water pack that attaches to rider back or waist.

There are 5 Missouri NICA races each season, and all races are hosted in the state of Missouri. Previous locations have included Columbia, Rolla, Jefferson City, Warsaw, St Louis and Kansas City. Visit the 2025 Schedule page for more details.

The only cost of being a Shark is the purchase price for the team jersey (approximately $60-100 depending on which jersey you purchase). There are currently no Team fees!
There is a Missouri NICA fee that was $325 in 2024. For more information on Missouri NICA fees, visit their Student Registration page.

We welcome any athlete in grades 6-12 who live within the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District. No experience needed! If you live outside of the Lee’s Summit School district, visit the Missouri NICA Teams Map.

The race season runs between August 23 and October 25. The Sharks will have 6 pre-season practices between April 1 and July (dates and locations TBA). Official season practices will begin in July and will be twice-weekly (days TBA).

Team practices are usually at Blue Springs Lake, Lake Jacomo, and Landahl Park.
